Vision: Growing God’s Kingdom TOGETHER
Mission Statement: Being transformed to be more like Christ
The Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church believes the whole Bible to be completely and equally inspired and that it is the written Word of God. The PFWB has adopted the following Declaration of Faith as its standard and official expression of its doctrine.
What We Believe
God
We believe in one God, maker of all things and existing in the Trinity of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1, 26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14
Jesus
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, became incarnate, was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin and is true God and true man. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return someday to earth to reign as King.
Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13
Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides Christians with power for living, understanding of spiritual truths, and guidance in making the right decisions.
Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16;
Ephesians 1:13, 5:18
The Bible
We believe the Bible, in its entirety, to be the inspired Word of God and the only infallible rule of faith and conduct. The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural direction of the Holy Spirit. It is our supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living.
2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21: Psalms 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5
People
We believe people were made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has potential for good, each of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our life.
Genesis 1:27; psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23
Salvation
We believe in the personal salvation of believers through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We can never make up for sin by good works. Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:2; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1, 10:9-10
Eternity
We believe people were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally with God is life in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelations 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9
Water Baptism
We believe that the saved should receive water baptism in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. This is a public testimony that a believer has accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21
Baptism of Holy Spirit
We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, accompanied by the physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. We believe in the nine gifts of the Spirit are now available to believers.
1 Corinthians 12; Acts 2:4
Divine Healing
We believe in divine healing through the power of God.
2 Chronicles 7:14; James 5:14-15
Marriage
We believe that marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman, and that they become one together, and that is the sacred institution established by God.
Mark 10:4-9
